Nuclear Units Secure After Japanese Earthquake

An earthquake that took place in the north of Japan has affected neither the
operation nor the security of the region’s three nuclear power units.
The earthquake struck the northern region of Tohoku in the early evening of 26th
May. The Japanese Atomic Industry Forum (JAIF) told NucNet that it was reported that
units one and two at Tohoku Electric’s Onagawa nuclear plant were already in a
state of shutdown for “planned inspections” at the time of the earthquake, while
Onagawa-3 – which was in operation at the time – shutdown automatically when the
earthquake started.
